SURFING AT TYWYN BEACH

Tywyn is situated in the heart of Cardigan Bay with over 4 miles of spectacular sandy beach, stunning views and so much space for everyone. Perfect for you to find your own break and lose yourself in the magic of the water and waves. The sea water at Tywyn is clean and un-polluted which has helped Tywyn achieve the prestigious blue flag award.
People have been visiting Tywyn for decades to play in the sea and waves with activities such as surfing, body boarding, kayaking and fairly recently kite boarding.
Surfing started in Tywyn way back in the 60’s, but did not kick off until the 70’s with the help of local businesses selling and hiring equipment. With the introduction and easier availability of wetsuits and surfboards, it has not stopped since.
Waves are generally not as powerful in the Tywyn area as other parts of the country. This is due to Ireland taking the brunt of what the Atlantic has to throw at us. Combined with its shallow beaches, it creates a great safe environment for all beach goers, making it a fantastic place for beginners and intermediate surfers.
If you are looking for more of a challenge, there are those hidden and not so hidden breaks that will test the most seasoned surfer, but nothing more so than the perfect peaks and deep swells that pump in the depths of the winter.
So come and spend some time in our waters, walk the beaches and meet the friendly locals.
Surfboards, kayak hire and sales are available from the Rise Surf Shop on Tywyn High Street.
